Also called dumpy tree frog or Australian green tree frog. Formerly Litoria caerulea / Ranoidea caerulea.

A hardy, docile beginner tree frog native to forests and woodlands of Australia and New Guinea. Small introduced populations exist in Florida; they have not established in New Zealand.

Adults typically reach about 4 inches, with large females sometimes larger. They are opportunistic feeders — crickets, roaches, mealworms, superworms, hornworms, and (for adults only, rarely) a pinky mouse. They are very prone to obesity, so do not free-feed.

White’s are arboreal. They spend a lot of time on wood, rock, or 3D-printed ledges, though they will sometimes rest on the floor during the day. At night they get more active. The call is a deep croak; a group can get loud, with croaks and smaller squeaks mixed in.

These froglets have been out of the water for a while, so sizes vary. All are feeding well on pinhead crickets and pinhead Periplaneta lateralis (red runners), with the occasional Nauphoeta cinerea (lobster roach) if they take it. As healthy as we can determine at shipping.

Care overview (how we keep ours)

White’s do well at normal indoor room temperature with a low-level UVB light over the enclosure. They do not need a rainforest tank. We mist a few times a week and let the enclosure dry down between sprays. A shallow water dish is always available and changed regularly (dechlorinated water).

Use a tall enclosure with ledges, branches, or other perches. Keep similar-sized frogs together — they will eat tankmates that fit in their mouth.

Froglets should be fed every day to every other day. Adults in our collection are fed about once a week. We dust feeders with calcium and a multivitamin about once a week; growing froglets do better with calcium on most feedings. Offer only what they clean up, and skip fatty treats (waxworms, pinkies) except as rare adult extras.
